Lead Paint Containment:

On April 1, 2010, brand-new regulations governing the removal and containment of paint in homes built prior to 1978 go into effect in the state of Iowa. In Illinois, the current regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding lead paint will be the standard that will be used.

For Iowa, the brand-new rules and regulations will be under the authority of the Iowa Department of Public Health. One of the new regulations is that anyone doing this type of work in Iowa must have an Iowa certification and that certification must come from and Iowa-certified instructor. The sticking point at the present time is that while the rules have been created, a curriculum for training and certification of individuals and companies has not been completed.

Within the Quad Cities, a local organization – Interfaith Housing – will be providing the necessary training for individuals and companies once the training curriculum is established by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Interfaith has past experience with lead paint rules and has provided training in the past to certify individuals and companies on HUD standards for lead paint containment.

If you have an interest in registering for this course, please contact Interfaith Housing directly. They are located in downtown Davenport at 519 Tremont Avenue. The phone number for Interfaith is
563-324-1483 and the person to speak with is Todd Theis.
